Full disclosure: As the Marketing Director of Fearless Comedy Productions, I believe in our company so much, I’m basically guaranteed to enjoy anything our members put forth the effort to create.
Last night, I was lucky enough to get to see the preview performance for Fearless Five: Conspiracies, which is the second annual Fearless Five show. As you may know, Fearless Five is a project conceptualized by our Artistic Director as a means for both new and experienced directors and writers to get the chance to see their work performed on a stage. We solicit pitches from within and outside of the company, and a committee picks the ones they want to see in action. It’s a great environment for people to learn new skills or mentor beginners, and the show moves at an unbelievable pace, since it’s five short, self-contained stage plays.
The show is performed by a versatile cast of six, each appearing in multiple acts, and embodying their roles so completely, that I can say there was no character transference from show to show. Each actor got the chance to demonstrate not only their comedic chops, but some took on more serious roles as well. The shows themselves provided a wide variety of thoughtful exploration of existing conspiracies, hypotheticals, and some fourth wall exposition.
The acts transition smoothly while stagehands expertly break and rebuild simple sets with the accompaniment of what appears to be a genuine conspiracy theory podcast. The lighting and sound are nuanced and skillfully done.
Honestly, I can’t wait to see this show again. My partner and I drove separately and the moment we left the theater, we called each other so that we could talk through the performances right away.
The show opens tonight at 7:30PM and takes place for the next three weekends on Friday and Saturday nights. Advance tickets are $10, or $15 at the door, and can be bought HERE. We hope to see you there!
